The Informatics Support Center (ISC) for the BC-CFR

E-SAC is providing project management and technical expertise for the research data management of the Breast and Colon Cancer Family Registries program. The Breast Cancer Family Registry (BC-CFR) is an international research infrastructure for investigators interested in conducting population and clinic-based interdisciplinary studies on the genetic and molecular epidemiology of breast cancer and its behavioral implications. A central goal of the B-CCFR is getting this translational research to the clinical and prevention setting for the benefit of Registry participants and the general public. The B-CFR has information and bio specimens contributed by more than 12,500 families across the spectrum of risk for these cancers and from population-based or relative controls.

G-DOC – Georgetown Database of Cancer

E-SAC is supporting the Lombardi Cancer Center in implementing their next generation of translational informatics platform – the Georgetown Database of Cancer (G-DOC) - a rich repository of clinical and molecular information that permits oncologists to personalize therapy for cancer patients. G-DOC will take advantage of standards and best practices from caBIG and other large-scale informatics projects to help integrate the wide variety of patient data it will hold. It is estimated that an average of only 20 percent of available information about a patient’s cancer is used in the course of his or her care. Implementation of G-DOC will increase the amount of useful information available to physicians, allowing them to tailor treatments more specifically and accurately.
